Gr. ἄγνος name of the tree, confused with ἁγνύς chaste, whence the second word L. castus chaste.] A tree, species of Vitex (V. Agnus Castus), once believed to be a preservative of chastity; called also Chaste-tree and Abraham’s Balm (? Baum).
