Crocin

Chem. [f. L. croc-us saffron + -IN.] A red powder, the coloring matter of Chinese Yellow pods, the fruit of Gardenia grandiflora, with which the robes of Chinese mandarins are dyed. A supposed product of the action of hydrochloric acid on crocin is Crocetin.
