17,000 Articles from the Encyclopædia Britannica, 11th & 12th eds. Champfleury (Jules François Félix Husson) (1821–1889) French author, born at Laon, on the 10th of September 1821. In a number of early pieces for the theater, as well as later romances, he achieved some distinction as a realistic writer. Of his works in that line, those worthy of mention are Contes d’Été and Contes d’Automne. Works of greater value, however, were those on the history of caricature, of literature, and of art, from 1825 to 1840, and his Bibliographie Céramique (1882). He died at Sèvres on the 6th of December 1889. See also The Faience Violin. © 2022 WEHD.com
